Dear Parents, |
|
Welcome!!! I hope that everyone had a great summer. I’m excited about the opportunity
to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year. I hope that this letter will help
you to know what to expect in our class this year and answer any questions you may have. I can't wait to meet everyone
on the first day of school. Parent/Teacher Relationship:
I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate
with you through notes, telephone calls, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if
you have any questions or concerns at any time. Your child's success in school is very important to me. Please let me
know if there is a way to improve that success. You can call me at school (724-375-7565 or email me at secondgradeolof@hotmail.com.

Outdoor
Recess/Water Bottle: The children will be going out
for recess everyday unless there is bad weather. Please keep this is in mind when helping your child to select clothing for
the day. Children are permitted to bring a bottle of water to keep on their desk. Please fill this bottle at home, and
make sure the cap is screwed tightly. Homework: Children will receive a HOMEWORK PLANNER, and I ask that a parent sign it every night.
Notes may also be written in the assignment book. Homework will generally consist of the following plus occasionally there
will be an on-going project: • Reading - Second graders should read 20 minutes a day. Some of this time may
be shared reading. This reading time is critical to maintain their reading progress. • Math – Monday through
Thursday, due the following day • Other Subjects- Depending on what is covered in class. • Spelling –Students
should study during the week for a test every Friday. If there is no school on a Friday, the test will be given on Thursday.
If there is no school on Monday, the pretest will be given on Tuesday. A complete list of words
will be given to you for the year during the first week of school. Also, please take time to go through homework
folders and check for homework, important information, or reminders. I am aware that many things come home from school. Please
sort through them the best you can and return their folder to school the next day and EMPTY except for returned homework.
Good habits are developed early and it is important that young children start off their school years right. If you think it
is important, then they will think it is important. Money: On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always send money in a sealed
envelope with the following information written on it: • Your child’s first and last name •
The amount of money • The purpose for the money (book money, party money, etc) • “Second
Grade”
With so many kids to keep track of and several reasons to collect money, this helps me out
tremendously and reduces the likelihood of errors. Also, if the envelope is dropped in the hallway, this information will
help the money to be returned to my
classroom. Book Orders: Your child will be bringing home a form to order books about once a month. If you wish to order, simply fill
out the form and send a check made out to the book company. These orders are provided as a convenient way for parents to buy
quality books for their child at a low price. Of course, you are never under any obligation to order. The book club has a lot of great activities and information on their web page. This is a great way to have books for
your second grader to practice their 20 minutes of reading a day! Also, if you ever want to get any books as a surprise, just
let me know and we can make arrangements when the order comes in. Birthdays: Birthdays are special occasions for young children. If your child
wishes, he/she may bring treats for the class on his/her birthday. Summer birthdays are celebrated in June. Volunteers: We love to have
parents come in to help us with many different activities. If you have any special skills or would just enjoy coming in to
share a few books with the class, please let me know. The End: In closing, I would just like to say that I am looking forward to a great year working
with your child! I would also like to suggest that you save this letter for future reference. You will get additional information
the first week of school and throughout the year as need. Thank you in advance for your concern and support throughout the
year. Sincerely, Mrs. Colangelo |
