You Gotta Want It Watching much of the Olympics? It's
funny how we forget. I watched a 38 year old woman turn 5 minute miles with the worst running form I've
ever seen and freaked out as she blew the competition away at the women's marathon. It's
like she said: "Forget the heat" "Forget the pollution" "Forget the
Kenyans" "I want the gold medal"

Too often we get caught up in the details
of training and/or technique and forget that you have to want it. No matter what the goal is You gotta want it Now go get it…. Of course I went out and did a 4 miler on Monday and just about blew myself up.

Speed, Speed, SpeedWell, it looks like summer is just
about gone. School starts soon, and football teams are in camp. That means one thing
to me… Our first meet is right around the
corner. I’m happy to report that everybody
has at least run (with a bit of walking) 1 ½ miles. Starting tonight I’m ramping up the speed
work

Who do you think is faster, the cat or the mouse?
The way I look at it, the cat is running
for his next meal. The mouse is running for his life.
Speedwork is basically running shorter distances at
a faster tempo with breaks in between. It teaches your legs and cardiovascular system that it can maintain the faster
pace. Next thing you know, you are running faster at meets and people are wondering how that slow kid is blowing past
them.
My goal is to turn a bunch of cats into mice. the cat can always say
"I'm
not that hungry"
not the mouse... I'm taking T-Shirt orders now. Last year
I called the CC shirts "the coolest shirts ever". I still hold that view. There was nothing beter than
me telling my football player nephew that what his coach uses to punish him I do for fun.
The look on his face
was priceless.
I will also say that the Athletic Organization does not frown apon parents showing school spirit
by wearing CC shirts. I need orders by next week.
We are also going to need a TON of help
on Friday, August 29th. That is the day of our first home meet.
Thanks for reading Coach McKenna
